An Englishman’s weekly Eurostar explorations of the eccentricities of German lower league football, concentrating mainly on the Regionalligas & Oberligas, but happy to stray into higher or lower echelons at the whim of geography & logistics.
David Rotheray is a pub landlord from Hull, East Yorkshire, who, as a retirement gift to himself, is hauling his ageing bones to Germany every weekend in order to watch lower-division football, meet entertaining people, and of course – drink an occasional beer.
He supports FC Union Berlin & Hull City AFC, but also harbours strong, warm, but never inappropriate, feelings for VfR Wormatia 08 Worms, Rot-Weiss Oberhausen & Cowdenbeath FC.

I love this Dave! I’ll be following. It would be good to get to a game over there with you sometime too – although I doubt you remember me from many years ago, I’d genuinely love that!
I used to ‘groundhop’ occasionally, I thought about sharing my experiences with you but mostly it is boring accounts of games in UK. I did see Cowdenbeath once (albeit at Alloa), and still own a Blue Brazil trackie top. The only lower division game I’ve seen abroad is this on, which at least involves beer & (in its own way) sausages…

I look forward to following your weekend exploits. Cheers! 🙂
Cheers Chris!
Brilliant, that’s some good hopping. I’ve got a Blue Brazil anorak, and a cap, no hoodie yet.
