Today we are at the home of Rot-Weiss Koblenz (‘RWK’ for short), who play in the Oberliga (5th tier, divided into 14 regions) and are not to be confused with TuS Koblenz, who play in the lofty heights of the Regionalliga (4th tier, 5 regions), and with whom they share a stadium. A third Koblenz team, ‘Cosmos’ also play in this Oberliga.
Today’s game against Waldagesheim pitches 13th place against 17th place (albeit after only 2 matches).
Linguistic note: the name ‘Koblenz’ is derived from the same root as the English word ‘confluence’ – as Koblenz lies on the banks of both the Rhine and the Moselle (see map, right, above). At TuS Koblenz games the fans sing ‘Rhein-Mosel-Stadt’ to the tune of ‘Auld Lang Syne’ to celebrate this very fact.
