So I am in Duisburg – a new city for me. Surprised to find out it is the 15th biggest city in Germany. A previously thriving industrial town, it is now the target of some derision, as ‘Germany’s ugliest city’. See, for instance, here: Duisburg, also known as the ugliest city in Germany
Remember the painful and ignorant ‘Crap Towns’ debate surrounding my home town of Hull, see for instance here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crap_Towns
Thus, I am going to sympathise, and withhold judgement.
Anyway, back to the 3 .Liga
Today’s encounter sees 18th meet 9th in the 3.Liga. The main incentive today is all on the side of MSV Duisburg, who are (more than) flirting with relegation, especially as in the 3.Liga it is currently 4 straight automatic relegation places (no play-off!).
Recommended – beers in the Ko-Treff bar near the station. They also shòw the game if you don’t fancy it, or can’t get a ticket. Or arrive late. Or leave early.
Good photos of my favourite German team.
What did you make of the day? The atmosphere?
( The ground is not full granted, but they have very loyal support considering the Zebras are near the bottom of the third tier).
I really enjoyed it. The fans were brilliant, they never stopped. And it is a rather large stadium!
My birth town. The birth town of all my 4 kids. My parents were brought up and met there. My dad was a MSV fan his entire life. Lived there again during university time. It makes you hard for life! We lived very close to a park in Meiderich which was quite nice. So this city has some beautiful spots, you just have to find them!
