The Ex-Chancellors Filet.
Thoroughly enjoyed at Die ExVertretung, Köln.
So named by the restaurant as it was the favourite of the Ex-German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder it is in fact a Currywurst mit Pommes. Born in Berlin, the Currywurst would have been the snack of choice in the environs of the Reichstag during the seven years Mr Schröder was in power before handing over to Angela “Mutti” Merkel – who was also a fan of the now ubiquitous sausage, ketchup and curry powder combo. Following Gerhard’s example (see below) it was paired here with a fine Gaffel Kölsch.
It’s served here with a homemade curry sauce somewhat reminiscent of old style chip shop curry sauce. Sausage was juicy and plump making it a tasty 8/10. Chips were nice too.
