Vegan Rostbräterle
Purchased at : Tofu StandPunkt, Münsterplatz, Freiburg.
Possible controversial opinion here. But the most important consideration when reviewing a sausage (at least in Germany) is NOT the sausage. This is because the sausage is – almost always – basically ok, at least 7/10 every time – kind of like (say) Christoph Baumgartner, Florian Kainz, or Lars Stindl. Ditto the mustard, ketchup etc. The biggest source of variation actually comes from the bread roll, specifically its freshness & crustiness, or lack thereof. This particular vegan Rostbräterle, like most German sausages, is more than respectable. But it also comes not only on a seductively ‘al dente’ super/fresh bread roll, but with a particularly tangy Harissa sauce as well. Spicy, chewy, superb. Straight into my all-time top 10.
Verdict: a highly saucy 9.5/10
